Angeliki Theoharis, mezzo-soprano has been described by critics as a singer with "untiring stamina" who"shows her dark tone to great effect." Of her Jordan Hall performance in Il Trovatore, Susan Larson of the Boston Globe wrote:"As Azucena, the gifted mezzo, Angeliki Theoharis, ground out her hair-raising chest notes and nailed her top ones with courage and thrilling beauty". The Boston Herald lauded her performance in Cavalleria Rusticana: "As Santuzza, the heroine of Cavalleria, Theoharis displayed a voice like a canon, capable of launching one big, solid note after another, and created a largely sympathetic character."
In May, 2000, Ms Theoharis made her Carnegie Hall debut, where she perfomed duets from Aida and Cavalleria Rusticana. In December 2001, she was a featured soloist in a Hellenic Foundation event at Merkin Hall, NYC. She has sung principal roles for Lyric Opera of New York, Touring Concert Opera in NYC, New York Opera Forum, NYC Hellenic Music Foundation, Lowell Opera, Operesque Classical Concerts in NYC, Commonwealth Opera, Salisbury Lyric Opera, Longwood Opera, Brookline Opera, Cambridge Chamber Opera, Boston Bel Canto Opera and the Boston Academy of Music. With BAM, she recorded a selection of Amy Beach songs with pianist Virginia Eskin.
Ms Theoharis has appeared in La Forza del Destino and as Eboli in Don Carlo with the legendary Jerome Hines. Her other roles have included Amneris in Aida, Frugola, La Principessa and Zita in Il Trittico, Laura in La Gioconda, Fricka in Die Walküre, Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera, The Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Florence Pike in Albert Herring, Antonias mother in Les Contes dHoffmann, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, and the title role in Carmen.
In addition to operatic repertoire, Ms Theoharis has successfully crossed over into operetta and musical theater. Among her repertoire are the roles of Ruth in Pirates of Penzance, Katisha in The Mikado, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Aldonza and the Housekeeper in Man of La Mancha, Vera Charles in Mame, Hattie in Kiss me Kate, Sister Berthe in The Sound of Music, and Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret.
Ms Theoharis has made numerous appearances with New England orchestras and choral societies. Her solo concert repertoire includes Handels Messiah, Durufles Requiem, Brittens Ceremony of Carols, Saint-Saꭳ Christmas Oratorio, Vivaldis Gloria, and The Magnificat by Vaughan Williams.
In July 2003, Ms Theoharis released her CD Mythic Mezzo on the ARKO Recordings label. Upcoming engagements include mezzo-soprano soloist for Verdis Messa da Requiem, Tigrana in Puccinis Edgar, and the title role in Rossinis Tancredi.
