Dana Cooper is a singer-songwriter of great depth and diversity. His fifth album, Harry Truman Built a Road
is remarkable proof of his depth of creativity. Produced by Richard McLaurin and Mack Linebaugh, the album includes appearances by Byron House, Brothers Henry and Daniel Tashian. This powerful set of 13 original tracks, including "Bony Man" a tribute penned for the late Townes Van Zandt, showcases Coopers compelling writing style and firmly establishes him as one of the most passionate performers in contemporary music. Originally from Independence, Missouri, Cooper was playing his own music in Kansas City clubs by the age of 16. After dropping out of college and leaving behind an art scholarship, he headed for Los Angeles. In 1973, Elektra records released his self-titled debut solo album featuring luminary players Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Jim Horn. Cooper later moved to Texas in 1978 to join forces with long time friend Shake Russell. Their collaborations produced five highly successful folk-rock albums, including one on MCA in 1981. The two became one of the most successful acts throughout Texas and the Southwest and appeared together on Austin City Limits. In 1992, Cooper released his first independent solo album, "Stone By Stone" The album opened the door to a wider variety of audiences including alternative and public radio. In 1997, Cooper released the critically acclaimed album, Miracle Mile on Compass Records. The album was nominated for a Nashville Music Award as "Best Pop Album." As a solo artist Cooper has been named "Best Songwriter in Houston," and he was also nominated for the Kerrville Folk Festivals "Male Vocalist of the Year Award." An accomplished writer, several of Coopers songs have been recorded by other popular artists, such as Maura O'Connell, Trout Fishing In America, Susan Werner, Jonell Moser and Christine Albert.
