About This:
New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Region and the Cape Ann, MA region have musical, artistic and fishing histories in common. Cape Ann has had its “perfect storms”, but the Katrina and Rita tragedies still continue to affect our Southern neighbors. Performers from the Gloucester, Rockport and Essex areas of Cape Ann have recorded a CD to benefit the hurricane victims.
CAPE ANN MUSICIANS FOR KATRINA RELIEF, in addition to David Brown, (Billy Joel’s guitarist for twelve years) also includes Fly Amero (of the band Orleans), Allen Estes (who has opened for Waylon Jennings, J. Geils and Bonnie Raitt), jazz trumpeter Herb Pomeroy, (who has played with Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton, Lionel Hampton, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet), Ned Nugent, (formerly of Entrain), David’s brother Douglass Brown, Daisy Nell and Capt. Stan, bluegrass band Old Cold Tator, high energy Megawatt Blues Crushers, the jazzy Al Boudreau Quartet, Gloucester blues favorite, Dave Sag and rockin’ John Keegan and Madhouse, Hoodoo Revelators, Groove Therapy and Rockholm contribute their special sounds. They all have recorded their own CDs and we thank them for their generosity on this one.
Purchasing a CD provides ongoing benefit to Gulf Coast children through the Children’s Health Fund/New Orleans Children's Health Project (childrenshealthfund.org/programs/neworleans.php) founded by Paul Simon and Irwin Redlener, MD. Shortly after Hurrican Katrina, one of the first Med Vac buses on the scene was a CHF bus. Paul Simon did some interviews standing in front of one of those buses asking the same question many other people asked. "Where is everyone else"? Was this a "Photo Opportunity"? Well, yes... Did it work? Worked for me! Just contributing to fuel costs to this organization would be money well spent! I look forward to an ongoing relationship with Paul Simon and The Children's Health Fund to better respond to such emergency needs. Hey, who knows, we might do another Central Park Simon and Garfunkel reunion concert, but this time, charge admission. We could help New Orleans even more than through just CD sales!
Thanks for helping us help them and enjoy the eclectic selection of music!
