About This:
Essentials, a two-CD retrospective from critically-acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet, and troubadour Ellis Paul. The recipient of thirteen Boston Music Awards, Paul has, over the course of fifteen years, built a vast catalog of music which weds striking poetic imagery and philosophical introspection with, hook-laden melodies. Ellis’ musical influences range from classic folk to more progressive, pop-derived textures. Over the course of its two discs, Essentials covers the many facets of Paul’s art and includes his most requested songs, some heard in their original incarnations and some newly recorded versions. Included are compelling live tracks, soundtrack contributions, and two new songs.
Over the thirty-four tracks on Essentials, Paul’s melodies and poetry take listeners soaring over Manhattan, winding down the coast of Maine, dining in Austin and drinking in Homer, Alaska, providing an ideal introduction to Paul’s gifts as a writer and a performer. “I have been doing this for twenty years and I have 11 albums and even more songs still unrecorded in my notebooks,” Paul explains. “With this release, I tried to capture enough of the essence of what I do so that people might check out the back catalogue of songs that span my career.”
