About This:
THE LOST NEWTON YEARS (1996 - 2006)
I call them "The Lost Newton Years" because when I moved up from North Carolina, I landed, eventually, in Newton, Massachusetts. There, at the home of a friend I've known since first grade, I lived in their cozy third floor "hawk's nest" and kind of hibernated and wrote many songs. I'd call my Mom (who lived across
the Pike in Newton Corner) and go for drives and walks with her, doing things like looking for her favorite plant - purple loosetrife. Every August it was the traditional "loosestrife hunt". Invasive species though it is, it looks great, with its purple blush gracing marshy fields and river banks. She always had a new secret location for a batch of it, and off we'd go.
I sang and played all the tracks on these songs, except for "Jingle Pie", which I recorded with a faculty grant at Berklee College Of Music. On that song it was: me on lead & background vocals, & Hammond B3; Bob Doezema - guitar; Tom Stein - bass; Kenwood Dennard - drums, & Cherokee mouth bow; Ralph "Corndog" Rosen - harmonica.
