About This:
Greg Greenway's newest collection of songs is witness to the idea that true artists continually push against boundaries - both artistic and cultural. After six CDs, he is still surprising, still evolving. There is a new rootsy feeling to this CD, thanks in part to the fabulous talents around him, particularly slide steel player Pat Wictor, drummer percussionist, Jagoda, and unearthly singer, Reggie Harris.
Standing on the Side of Love took shape around the title cut which sprung from Greg's most consistently powerful wellspring - social justice. It is echoed in his co-write with Alabama, singer/songwriter Kate Campbell, Sick and Tired, as they give voice to Fannie Lou Hamer's famous phrase. But, it is one of Greg's true talents to keep all of this within the frame of the intensely personal. Highway 4am is a universal love poem;
The Weight of Feathers flowed from a discussion with his 89 year old mother.
What is consistently evident in these ten songs is Greg's continual musical growth, both on guitar (his childhood instrument), piano (his adult love), and his ability to arrange and present his own ideas. With the ingenious assistance of co-producer Neale Eckstein, he's never done it better.
