MAEVE HUGHES FULL-LENGTH STUDIO RECORDING, “BEGIN FROM WITHIN” RELEASED 2007
Hughes’ style described by critics as “soulful” and
“fusion of jazz and rhythm and blues, with a flourish of hip hop.”
BOSTON, MA—While she continues to build a loyal following throughout New York, New England and Los Angeles, Maeve Hughes is releasing her first full length album, “Begin From Within.”
Hughes, about whom the Nantucket Independent wrote “vocal rhythm is similar to Ani Difranco while her voice mimics the strength in Natalie Merchant's cords,” has been building on the success of her 2004 EP, “October Skies.”
In “Begin From Within,” listeners will hear the continued progression of the songwriter’s artistry. She not only wrote and arranged all the tracks on the album but was also executive producer of the project. Hughes states, "I am really excited about the new CD- I had great coproducers and an all-star cast of musicians, including special guest appearances on flute, cello, sax, trumpet, and turntables. One of my favorite contributions is Mamadou of Gokh Bi System, a Senegalese Hip Hop group, rhyming in his native tongue Wolof. I am thrilled about the product and wouldn't do anything differently."
Hughes’ song “Broken Wing” is featured on “Females On Fire 2” (Warrior Girl Music, 2006), and her song “Skipping Stones” is featured on the “Go Girls Music Fest 2006” CD (www.gogirlsmusicfest.com).
