About This:
“Motion” was my first recording, an LP that was released in 1986. The songs reflect what I was doing then, a mixture of rock and R&B. Some songs hint at my interest in jazz, but this record was intended for a pop/rock audience. I wrote and arranged the songs plus I played all of the keys and guitars on the record. My band at the time included Chris Anderson, bass; Lowell Webber, drums; Ernie Sola, saxes; and Roy Reed on vibes and marimba. Roy was also the executive producer. Backing vocals were added by Joanne Dillon-King and Jeanne French. Jeff Hoyt added trumpet. The record has a decidedly 80’s sound. We have a limited number of LP’s available, but plenty of downloads! The Tracks: 1. “I Don’t Need A Reason” – Up tempo rock with an R&B feel. Ernie does a great solo. 2. “No Way To Say” – Funky rock. 3. “Motion” – Fast funk with a heavy guitar solo. Dig the synth pad. 4. “The Bass Line” – My ode to Motown. 5. “The End Of A Love Affair” – I still really like this one because the changes are interesting. The piano and Roy’s marimba (it’s the real thing and it sounds awesome) trade fours. 6. “Working Overtime” – Bar band R&B, with blaring horns. This opened side 2. 7. “Don’t Wake Me Up” – 80’s pop ballad. Ernie plays a nice alto solo. 8. “Right Away” – More rock-funk, or is it funk-rock? Includes a quasi-rap. 9. “Heaven Only Knows” – This was one our more popular gig tunes. 10. “Let It Out” – Starts with a new-agey piano intro, then pops into a mellow funk groove. It’s about speaking your mind.
