Planet Groove is a five-piece Latin/jazz/world/fusion band based in Rhode Island. For nine years, Planet Groove has been considered by many to be the most diverse and musically courageous original project in New England. Heavily percussion driven, Planet Groove constantly tracks through new and emotive rhythms in search of the deepest and most inspiring grooves. JoyRide, their latest offering, is precisely what the name implies; JoyRide takes the listener on a blast of a ride, racing up and down and in and out of phat original grooves such as el Torpedo and Del Rio, cruising along into inventive re-makes of classics such as Miles Davis' So What, King Crimson's Elephant Talk, and Charlie Brown's Linus and Lucy, then wheeling dangerously close to the edge in the dark and desperate Kamikaze or the most mystifying Forbidden City. The JoyRide comes to its ultimate destination when it runs headlong into an army of drums in the rousing and blood-boiling Excessive Sonic Boom.
