Rudy was born to one of St. Thomas Virgin Islands most prominent legendary dj .DJ Calabash. During the late 80’s her father was a well known for his creative dj style as well as being talented singer who belonged to a local reggae band by the name of Full Generation. As a young child she would accompany him to many of his band rehearsals were she would sometimes sing with him in his band. Impressed with her father singing and his huge following as a dj in the Virgin Islands she began too formulate her own style and capture her own crowd by writing songs inspired by listening to her favorite artist like Bob Marley, Janet Jackson, Shelly Thunder, Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill. The artists that inspired her would also contribute to making her take her talent more seriously. Thus making her began to work harder at crafting her skill as a youngster unto her teenage years.
Her passion and her driven attitude later motivated her to follow her dreams; she felt compelled to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia after Hurricane Marylyn destroyed her beautiful Island, in the pursuit to breaking into the music industry and signing a major record deal. While in Atlanta some friends from her homeland encouraged her to enter The Exhile One DJ Competition of the Year. This was an annual competition that brought out the best talent from many artists from different Caribbean islands vying for the title of the best unsigned dancehall artist of the year. In front of a crowd of 2000, Rudy came prepared to battle dressed in army fatigue she belted out an accappella style a song she had written entitled Songgyal. The crowd went into an uproar, many were in disbelief by the sharp lyrics and vocal ability of this petite young lady . Full of energy she dominated the stage and warned anyone male or female who dared to challenge her to think twice. That night was a major turning point in Rudy’s life. As the first and only female to ever capture such a distinctive title like Exhile One DJ of the Year. This was just what she needed to earn the respect of both dj’s and promoters and labels. Rudy was later than approached by several different label executives for ventures into album development.
Rudy’s fans are her greatest inspiration to keep on striving to the top in this male dominated business. This Virgin Islands princess is defiantly on the road to success and will not stop until she accomplishes her destiny with her 2008 Summer smash hit ‘Come Betta’ she declares no matter how much you hate none of you can ‘come betta’ than her. With titles like that you know she means business so be on the look out for her eagerly awaited album Diamond in the Ruff. For media related questions, booking and other information
