The Day After

When the eleventh hour undecided found their groove

When the other side felt the spirit of intent in our focus

When the patient who knew some day they’d sing, cry and rejoice; did

NuffsEnuff was a project ignited by Obama/Biden’08.

While collectively attempting to reshape a global economy in fast demise, an evolved world citizenry came alive. Working to defeat hunger, eradicate disease and refute divisive hate; they would destroy, by embarrassment, a contagion of spreading violence armed with weapon of choice: a genuine concern for all humanity.

Doubled over and aching, they longed for intelligent, effective, deep healing leadership to guide the family of man toward a self sustaining system of energy. With this energy they would refuel their best of hopes. (take a tall Al Gore and two Tom Friedmans and call me in the morning.)

Subsequent jobs springing forth from such a system would promise a realization of multiple societal improvements.

When old ways became unacceptable and well, old; they found themselves out on a limb overlooking an endless descent. Valiant effort from the aforementioned evolved world citizenry would morph the ranks of the financially challenged, starving and sick into renewable resources though reversal of inequity.

Breathing, eating, and learning once again; a somnolent nation rises to create the new prosperity. With 5, 10 and 25 dollar dreams their inspired motivation served as end reward. The disenfranchised, virtually written off by the Hoarders of One Percent, emerge at the helm of a new dawn.

Inevitably, driven by demand for bold action, suppressed guttural lamentation bursts forth from furious floodgates. Livid, enraged disgust; unable to contain itself any longer, erupts by whisper into, “Here’s your golden parachute, right here!”

In fairness, as we dismantle this debacle, let's admit our personal contribution to its creation. The prerequisite for discovering the next defining moment of truth, post the abyss of the financial free fall of September 2008, will be getting out of one’s self.

Here’s a new challenge to the world: Me, LAST (how novel); the only mantra/mission statement logically left. A stark reality invoking the imperative: Discard the egocentric sickness of greed.

A numb bloated yet gluttonous species, expanding parallel with the universe since time immemorial, hears echoes of a Winchell 30’s radio broadcast: “Extra, extra, the unlimited feeding frenzy at The Banquet of the Complacent and Accepted Norm came to a swift and sudden halt today as dried up, spoiled offerings vanished.”

Election Day 2008 would hold few surprises but, bracing for the worst, we held our collective breath and willed away “things happening.” This time, those hanging chads, faulty touch screens and the like were eclipsed by an unprecedented turnout serving as the great equalizer. Any funny business would not have been amusing.

So, at eight o’clock in the evening EST, a symphony by the Overwhelmingly Engaged and Expanded Electorate played an historic concert: The Rite of Passage; in one movement.

The President and Vice President elect, with support from their families, are preparing to navigate a sea change for our nation and the world. After surviving our history to date, especially this last Trial of Eight (years), we are empowered by a magnificent mobilization that wouldn't and couldn't be stopped.

You were ready to Barack & Roll. You sang out, cried and rejoiced and in believing… you overcame.

May the lyrics and music of this song, written in February of 2008, lift your spirit and inspire your contribution to a new world order.

Rarely before was our vote so crucial…our effort so sublime.

Barack & Roll…You just had to believe it.

Lyrics:

Barack & Roll

Hey there’s a cool music genre
Comes a dance with it too
They call it Movement Obama
Barack and Roll to you

And come the fourth of November
Two oh oh eight if you will
They’ll be casting votes off the radar
A country’s sure had its fill

And while its hats off to heroes
For all you did and you do
Nobody be stopping the motion
Feel it glide right on through

Yes we can
Yes we can
Yes we can

Come take a stand
Put you hand to the ballot
No sitting back
Beat the drum with your mallet

The challenge awaits for us all
Apathy’s not quite the call
No, apathy’s no good for all
Yellow brown red black or white

If you get off your you know what and fight

Yes we can...you just got to believe it

** After 20% towards distribution fees, half the .99 cent cost of this project went to Obama/Biden’08 through November 4, 2008. As of November 5, 2008 onward, that 40% shifted to the World Food Programme (www.wfp.org/lateshow) in the fight to permanently rid the world of hunger and 10% to St. Judes Children's Hospital. The remaining 30% is shared by the artist. (we, last)
