About This:
FESTIVAL EXPRESS
A rousing record of a little-known, but monumental, moment in rock n' roll history.
One hour 29 minute DVD $19.98
In 1970 I had the honor of being locked up on a trans-Canada private train for a week with the likes of Janis Joplin, the Band, the Grateful Dead, Buddy Guy and more. Best party I've ever been to hands down. The train would stop in major population centers and we'd reluctantly stop the boogying and go do a stadium show for the locals. It was all filmed and taped, but the promoter hadn't really thought through the question of rights. He couldn't get permission from many of the artists to release a movie. The film and tape (hundreds of reels of each, with no labeling or cross-referencing) sat in a warehouse until recently, when some patient guys managed to get the rights sorted out and match up enough audio and video to make this movie. It's fun. I'm not featured prominently enough, of course, but it's still fun.
