About This:
Boston area Singer/Songwriter/Actress Celia Slattery presents her debut CD, Movin' On. Featuring music from Moving Target, Celia's one-woman show about growing up in the sixties and seventies, the album is an eclectic mix of
originals in a folk/pop style, as well as classics by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Jesse Colin Young. Produced by Mark Shilansky, the innovative
jazz and world music-influenced arrangements and lush vocal harmonies underscore Celia's introspective songs and reveal the spirit of the cover tunes.
Movin' On is an original song that uses the process of moving to a new home as a metaphor for letting go of the past and moving on with your life. Nowhere Fast is a jazz influenced hook-driven song about a stalled relationship. Get Together is an updated cover of the Jesse Colin Young classic in which the arrangement reflects the message of the song. Hip Hop grooves meet acoustic guitar with Celia's heartfelt vocals providing a throughline. A jazz sax solo in the middle of the song provides a counterpoint to a rap (performed by two of
Celia's former students) which relates the song with contemporary urban issues. At the end of the song, all the diverse groups "get together" in a climactic, gospel-influenced final chorus.
